Journal of Public Deliberation seeks new Editor

The Deliberative Democracy Consortium (DDC) and the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), who work in partnership to jointly support the Journal of Public Deliberation (JPD), are beginning a search to find the next editor for the journal. This peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary publication appeals to practitioners, academics and emerging professionals interested in the public participation around the world.

JPD is the leading journal in the rapidly growing field of deliberative public participation.

This is a volunteer position which commences on September 15, 2013.  Since there is no funding to support this role, the most realistic editors may be those based in strong institutions within higher ed, or nonprofit organizations or associations that have sustained funding or their own endowments.

After three successful years as editors of JPD, Tim Steffensmeier and David Procter of the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy at Kansas State University would like to move on to other challenges and opportunities. During their tenure, article downloads and submissions have more than doubled – downloads have in fact grown from 11,816 to 16,787.  Steffensmeier and Proctor moved from an annual publication schedule to two issues per year and they transitioned the journal to a new online platform at Berkeley Electronic Press that has a number of new capabilities and makes JPD articles easier to find through online searches.

Applications:

IAP2 and DDC invite expressions of interest in continuing this journal. Those interested in assuming the editorship of JPD are encouraged to complete this application form and send it and any questions (via email) to:
