Launching NCDD’s fall membership drive!

NCDD provides a vital national gathering place for more than 1,500 organizations and individuals who are leading a renaissance of civic engagement in the U.S. For almost a decade, NCDD has developed and maintained a critical infrastructure for youthe agents of democratic change.

Membership dues are vital for ensuring that NCDD can continue to support the innovators who are working to bring people of all stripes together to discuss, decide and act together on today’s toughest issues. Yet well over half of our members do not yet contribute dues (see pie chart).

We did not begin collecting dues from any members until 2007, and we decided at the time to maintain our commitment to inclusivity by allowing anyone to join NCDD regardless of their ability to pay dues.  We do not plan on ever requiring all members to pay dues (that’s just not who we are!), but we would like to see the orange wedge in the pie chart become considerably smaller.

During our fall membership drive, we will be reaching out to our existing members to encourage them to upgrade their membership, share their “NCDD story,” and encourage people in their networks to join (stay tuned for a contest to see who can reach the most new members!).  We’ll be sharing the story of NCDD’s development and highlighting some things we’ve created or accomplished that you may not be aware of.  We’ll be using our presence on numerous social networks to raise awareness about NCDD’s and our members’ work, and encourage new members to join.  And of course we’ll be keeping you updated on how we’re doing throughout the drive.

We hope we can count on your support during the membership drive.  Here are two things you can do right now:

  1. Check out the letter from the Board about the membership drive and why it’s so important to NCDD’s future.
  2. If you’re an NCDD member, look yourself up on this members chart (Excel file), and check out your “membership type” and “suggested actions.”  Unless your suggested action is “You’re good – thank you!,” please consider upgrading to dues-paying status, renewing your dues, or becoming a Sustaining Member or Organizational Member by completing this short form.

And if you’re not already an NCDD member, please consider joining!  More details about membership are here.
