Launching our Scholarship Fund Drive for NCDD Seattle

In this time of intense political divides and seemingly unsolvable global problems, effective dialogue and deliberation are more needed than ever. The National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation serves an ever-growing community of innovators who convene and mobilize people across the globe. The Coalition is a catalyst for connection and progress across this vital field, and our high-energy conferences are a testimony to that.

NCDD is holding a national conference this October 12-14 in Seattle, Washington, and we’re calling on members of our broad community of practice to contribute to the conference Scholarship Fund.

Our scholarships serve to increase diversity among conference participants. We’ll use the scholarship funds we are able to collect, first and foremost, to assist young people and people with lower incomes with registration and lodging costs for the conference. We recognize that we need to be cultivating the next generation of leadership in our field.

We’d also like to use some scholarship funds to help get public administrators with tight budgets to the conference, as we know their involvement and knowledge is highly valued by conference attendees.

Why should you support this year’s NCDD gathering?

NCDD’s national conferences have been held every other year since 2002, but in 2010 we decided to hold five regional events rather than a national conference in light of the economic downturn. 2012 is still a tight year for many of you, and for NCDD as well — yet we decided it was important to bring our community together this year for a national conference.

The planning team is designing an exciting program that we hope will help our community tap into its collective assets and know-how to design some big-splash projects that will benefit our field, our communities, and even our country. We’re shaping the conference to provide space, inspiration, stories, and support for you to do just that.

What do we need to know and do to more effectively lay the groundwork for the kind of culture shifts needed to ensure problems are solved and communities are built in more collaborative, inclusive, participatory ways?  What projects can we start together to move in this direction? In addition to being an amazing opportunity to learn and network, this is what NCDD Seattle is all about — and we invite you to join us or otherwise support this convening.

We hope that since we haven’t held a national conference since 2008, many of you will make the investment required to attend. And if you’re not able to join us for financial or scheduling reasons, we hope you will contribute what you can to help ensure we have a successful, inclusive conference.

Please make a tax deductible donation to the scholarship fund today by completing the form below or at www.ncdd.org/funddrive.  Our ambitious goal is to raise $15,000 from our amazing community by August 22nd.

Contributions of any size are welcome — and you can choose to have your donation earmarked for scholarships, used for the conference wherever is most needed, or a combination of both.

Submit your donation now!

Contributors (and the amounts you donate) will be proudly acknowledged on the NCDD website and in the printed conference guidebook.
