About Me
Awed by the evolutionary challenges and opportunities we face as a civilization, I research and promote dialogue, deliberation, and other resources for collective intelligence and conscious evolution. After 15+ years exploring what processes and institutions could create a wise democracy, I began investigating how to apply evolutionary understandings to social transformation, and convening strategic conversations of evolutionary agents. I am now exploring wiser forms of economics. I founded The Co-Intelligence Institute in 1996 and wrote The Tao of Democracy in 2003, Reflections on Evolutionary Activism in 2009, and Empowering Public Wisdom in 2011. I live in Eugene, OR, in 2-cat, 2-dog, 5-chicken, 10-person consensus-based co-op household and play 12-string guitar every now and then.
NCDD Involvement
I was on the NCDD steering committee and have attended every national NCDD conference. I've led 3 workshops at NCDD conferences, including a pre-conference workshop with Peggy Holman in 2008 "The Underlying Dynamics of Conversations that Matter", which played a role in the evolution of the GroupWorks pattern language cards. I was a key integrator in the effort that created the Core Principles of Public Engagement in 2009. And I've been an inconsistent contributor to the discussion list and the NCDD blog. I have been a voice for visionary collective NCDD action to shift society's dysfunctional political and economic systems using dialogue and deliberation.
Description
The nonprofit Co-Intelligence Institute (CII) promotes awareness of co-intelligence and of the many existing tools and ideas that can be used to increase it. The CII embraces all such ideas and methods, and explores and catalyzes their integrated application to democratic renewal, community problems, organizational transformation, national and global crises and the creation of just, vibrant, sustainable cultures.

I'd like to
I am interested in linking up with NCDDers seeking ways to shift political, governmental, and economic systems to facilitate empowered collective wisdom. A specific project is designing a grassroots, self-organizing (and largely online) deliberative system that has at least 80% of the collective-wisdom-generating capacity and potential legitimacy of Citizens Juries and Consensus Conferences and figuring out how to establish it and empower the wisdom it generates to impact public policy and the collective behaviors of society.

glad to see this site making some great strides.
This group was formed to help those in the Pacific Northwest to network and share region-specific news, info, and opportunities. The Pacific Northwest, broadly defined, includes all of Washington state, most of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and British Columbia, and adjoining parts of Alaska, Yukon Territory and California.
We wanted to create one group that every NCDD member is a part of, so we can provide a space where all members can take part in discussions here in the members network.
