NCDD’s Discussion Lists
NCDD’s email discussion lists are open to everyone involved in dialogue and deliberation work (not just NCDD members). Our discussion lists foster networking, information-sharing and collaboration within the growing dialogue and deliberation community.
First, thank you to L-Soft for their generous support! Since January 2008, NCDD has benefited from the generous donation of mailing list services by L-Soft, a leading provider of email list management software, email marketing software and email list hosting services. NCDD has been relying on L-Soft’s LISTSERV® email list management software solution for years and all our mailing lists are hosted by L-Soft free of charge.
The NCDD Updates announcement list
NCDD’s monthly email update keeps over 25,000 people informed about opportunities and goings-on in the rapidly growing dialogue and deliberation community. Many people find our updates to be invaluable, and we promise not to send more than one message a month!

The main NCDD Discussion list
Our most popular discussion list – NCDD Discussion – has 1,100 subscribers as of September 2010, and is a source for advice, inspiration, support, and food-for-thought to many in the field. Most NCDD members are subscribed to this list, and non-members involved in D&D are welcome to subscribe as well. All subscribers should familiarize themselves with the ground rules that have been established over the years for this list.
People tend to be very generous with their expertise and know-how on the list, so it’s a great place to ask for practice-related advice. One subscriber recently posted that she’s “always grateful for the generosity of spirit and sharing within this group …. all the sharings are like jewels!”
Most subscribers are experienced facilitators, convenors or scholars in public engagement or conflict resolution, but we have a lot of graduate and undergrad students and “newbies” to this work on the list as well. The diversity of experience (level and type) of our subscribers is one of the things that makes the listserv such a useful resource for so many people.
Activity on the list varies from week to week depending on the topics that are brought up on the list. One week there may only be three or four messages, another week there may be dozens. If you find the number of messages to be overwhelming your inbox, you can email Joy Garman (our Office Manager) at joy@ncdd.org and ask her to switch you to the daily digest version so you receive only one message a day.
Archives of the NCDD Discussion list are available online (although you’ll need to register in the L-Soft system first). Archives go back to March 2006. See this link for instructions for accessing the archives. Subscribers can also follow messages to the list through the list’s RSS feed.

The Making A Living in D&D list
If you are looking for work in dialogue & deliberation, we recommend you subscribe to this list. We now use this list to primarily share job openings we hear about in the field.
NCDD member Steve Pyser initiated this discussion list in 2006, and launched it with a conference call focused on such issues as setting pay standards and helping people professionalize the work they do. Archives for the Making A Living list can be accessed online.

Regional listservs
NCDD members are always interested in additional opportunities to network and share information with colleagues locally, and we’ve set up some discussion lists to help. We also use these lists to share grant opportunities, job openings, facilitation opportunities, workshops, etc. specific to these regions.
Northern California Network list
Formed after the 2003 Northern California Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation, anyone from the San Francisco Bay Area (and anywhere else in Northern CA) is welcome. New England Network list

Formed around the time of the 2004 NCDD conference in Denver, in response to requests from scholars and practitioners in the Denver-Boulder region. The Newbies list
This listserv is meant to provide a space for networking and mutual support for new practitioners (“newbies”) who are trying to find their way in this emerging field.
The young people who attended NCDD’s Denver conference in 2004 initiated this discussion list. All those who are newer to this work are welcome to subscribe, as are more seasoned practitioners who would like to help or connect with newbies. Priya Parker and Evan Thomas Paul are the two young people who led the New Practitioners initiatives after the 2004 conference (including this list).

To unsubscribe from any discussion list, replace “listname” in the following email address with the name of the discussion list (COLORADO-NETWORK, for example):

For the NCDD Discussion list, that would be NCDD-Discussion-SIGNOFF-REQUEST@lists.thataway.org.
If that doesn’t work for you (it only works if you send the message from the email you’re subscribed with), or if you need to make a change in your email address, switch to the daily digest, etc., just email NCDD office manager Joy Garman at joy@ncdd.org and she’ll make the changes you need.

I would encourage people in the NCDD network to check out Occupy Together — http://www.occupytogether.org for information on the Occupy Movement. Althougth the Occupy Movement is too democractic, too decentralized, and too diverse (all strengths) to be held in one group or one website, this is a good connecting point. John Steitz
