Conciliation Resources’ Accord Programme aims to support the efforts of those directly involved in transforming armed conflict into opportunities for sustainable human development, by responding to the ongoing challenge of informing and enhancing peace processes around the world. Working collaboratively with locally-based organizations, the Accord Programme aims to: document peace processes and initiatives and the sources and dynamics of particular conflicts; increase public access, both locally and internationally to the understanding of peace processes and peace agreements; and promote learning, domestically and internationally from past and comparable peace making experiences.

In launching a new academic journal focusing on conflict transformation in Africa in 1999, ACCORD fulfilled a long-held ambition to contribute to the intellectual development of thinking, writing and dialogue in the field of conflict management on the continent of Africa.

Articles are longer and more in depth than those found in Conflict Trends, and of an overtly academic nature. However, readership is not limited to academic institutions, and literary style has deliberately been kept accessible and straightforward. The African Journal on Conflict Resolution (AJCR) publishes the writings of a wide range of African and international authors in the field, but emphasis has deliberately been kept on African writers and the thinking emerging from African universities, colleges and organisations.

Established in 1995, the Cyprus-based Centre for World Dialogue is an international NGO that exists to promote greater understanding between the peoples of the world. The Centre has hosted conferences, seminars and meetings in Cyprus and elsewhere on issues of international concern and publishes a quarterly journal called Global Dialogue, which promotes the exchange of ideas on a broad range of international issues. Subscriptions to the journal, which aims to encourage debate as an alternative to violence, are US $30/year (for 2 issues). www.worlddialogue.org

The Centre’s work is coordinated across a number of key areas:

Organisation of two or three major conferences a year on a wide range of international topics.

Publication of the quarterly journal Global Dialogue, presenting the latest thinking by academics and experts worldwide.

Provision of a reference library and research facility at the Centre’s offices in Nicosia.

Co-ordination of occasional meetings between prominent figures and community leaders.

The Centre for World Dialogue is founded on the conviction that all people have the right to engage in the free and open discussion of ideas. The Centre believes that dialogue and the exchange of views have a vital role to play in the prevention and resolution of conflicts. These basic principles underpin the Centre’s commitment to promoting greater understanding and co-operation at all levels through initiating and encouraging discussion on issues of global concern.

The Centre’s location in Cyprus—historically a bridgehead between Europe and the Middle East—means that it is ideally placed to facilitate communication between the cultures of East and West.

As of June 2010, articles the Global Dialogue journal may be sent by e-mail to the editor, Paul Theodoulou, at the following address: paul@worlddialogue.org.
