Join the NCDD Confab on Conversation Café, 12/19!

We’re excited to announce our next NCDD Confab Call will be featuring the co-creators of Conversation Café! Join us on Monday, December 19th from 1-2pm Eastern/10-11am Pacific for this one-hour call where we will learn more about this simple but powerful dialogue tool from the people who made it. This Confab will be an opportunity to learn all about the Conversation Café (CC) process, connect with people already doing Cafés, understand the basics of being a host, and share with NCDD how we can be […] (continue)

Top Resources for Post-Election Dialogue Across Divides

Earlier this week, NCDD hosted a special post-election Confab Call during which over fifty of our members and affiliates had a rich, inspiring, and for some, therapeutic conversation about what kind of work people in the dialogue and deliberation field are doing to address this post-election moment. The call was part of our ongoing #BridgingOurDivides campaign, during which we’ve been encouraging our members to share about the work happening in our field that’s aimed at fostering bridge building, and to share resources that can build capacity to […] (continue)

Tips and Resources for Better Thanksgiving Conversations

For many people, the Thanksgiving holiday this week and the holiday season around the corner bring the likelihood of difficult conversations and out-right fights around the dinner table. Talk of politics and other hot topics can be tricky to navigate with family and friends – especially when we don’t see eye to eye – and it seems like the loud, divisive election season might only make holiday conflicts harder to avoid this year. NCDD will continue to carry on our #BridgingOurDivides campaign through the holidays because we recognize that the holiday […] (continue)

What We Know Post-Election: Dialogue & Deliberation is More Critical than Ever

The Presidential election and the week following has brought the deep divides in this nation to a head, and brought to light numerous issues in our country. The results show us that huge swaths of the country feel unheard and anxious about the future, and sadly, many responses to the election and events taking place in its wake have highlighted issues of pent up frustration, racism, bigotry, and more.  We don’t know for sure what the coming weeks, months, and years will bring, but we do […] (continue)

NCDD is the New Steward for Conversation Café! – Now What?

In case you haven’t heard, the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation has become the new steward of Conversation Café (CC). Andy has revamped the CC website, which you can check out at www.conversationcafe.org, and we are in the process of reconnecting with the CC network and figuring out how we can best support and grow this important community. NCDD’s Sandy Heierbacher and Keiva Hummel will be spearheading this effort, so feel free to contact either of us if you have questions or want to help […] (continue)

DeKalb, IL Plans for Future with Conversation Cafe Model

We recently heard the story of an exciting project that the City of DeKalb undertook to engage citizens in its strategic planning process that we wanted to share here. With a few of our NCDD members’ help, DeKalb held a series of Conversation Cafe-style public meetings and will turn the input they gathered into a 10-year vision for the city. We encourage you to read more about the process in NCDD member Tracy Rogers-Tryba‘s write up of the project below. The City of DeKalb enlisted the assistance of the Center […] (continue)

Should NCDD become the new steward of Conversation Cafe?

NCDD is engaging our members and the broader dialogue and deliberation community on an important decision we’re facing, and we are seeking our members’ input, ideas, and reaction. Our good friend Jacquelyn Pogue has reluctantly decided to retire from her stewardship of the process known as Conversation Café, leaving a powerful form of dialogue at risk. Jacqueline, as well as Vicki Robin and Susan Partnow (the co-creators of Conversation Café), approached me about whether NCDD would be interested in stewarding the tool, and I believe NCDD has […] (continue)

Update on Conversation Cafe

I received a message tonight from Vicki Robin, co-founder with Susan Partnow of Conversation Cafes.  Vicki and Susan are both NCDD members, and Conversation Cafe is a well-known dialogue model that is elegantly simple, if you aren’t familiar with it (learn more here).  Conversation Cafe is going through some big changes, and I wanted to share them with the NCDD community. In her message, Vicki said… You haven’t heard from us at Conversation Cafes in quite some time. We’ve been reorganizing and the whole project […] (continue)

A Message from Vicki and Susan at Conversation Café

I thought I’d share this important message from NCDD members Vicki Robin and Susan Partnow at Conversation Café. It covers this year’s Conversation Week as well as some soul-searching they’ve been doing at CC. Hello Conversation Café hosts and friends, Conversation Week 2009 will be March 23-29. It’s time for you to pick your location – and time for us to tell you what support we’re offering at CC-Central. This year our plan is to give you – our hosts and friends – everything you […] (continue)
