NCDD was proud to host a special Confab Call this week with our partners at the McCourtney Institute for Democracy – an NCDD member organization and the host of the Nevins Democracy Leaders Program – who shared a presentation on the incredible opportunity for D&D organizations to take advantage of their Nevins Democracy Leaders Program. Nearly two dozen organizations participated in the call, which marked the launch of the 2016-17 application for organizations who want to host a bright, D&D-trained student who will work with their organization for […] (continue)

NCDD is the New Steward for Conversation Café! – Now What?

In case you haven’t heard, the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation has become the new steward of Conversation Café (CC). Andy has revamped the CC website, which you can check out at www.conversationcafe.org, and we are in the process of reconnecting with the CC network and figuring out how we can best support and grow this important community. NCDD’s Sandy Heierbacher and Keiva Hummel will be spearheading this effort, so feel free to contact either of us if you have questions or want to help […] (continue)

Don’t Forget to Contribute to Our Survey of the D&D Field!

As we recently announced, NCDD is teaming up with the Kettering Foundation to conduct an Inventory Survey of the D&D and public engagement field, and you’re all encouraged to participate! In addition to just getting a better sense of the state of our field, our hope is to use the results to create a map of facilitators and organizations that can be searched by location, the approaches you use, and the issues you specialize in. The map would be designed to help folks outside of the field connect with your consultancy or organization. But […] (continue)

Free Online Event with Mark Gerzon on Bridging Partisan Divides

UPDATE: Did you miss the webinar? The Shift Network has posted the recording of the hour-long call, which you can listen to by clicking here. So many Americans are disheartened by how political polarization seems to be driving a wedge between us. This polarization has become a national crisis with profound repercussions for our personal relationships, collective well-being and the future of our nation. NCDD’s upcoming national conference in October is focusing in on how the amazing people in our field are bridging political, racial, […] (continue)

Participate in NCDD’s Field-Wide Inventory!

What if we knew how many dialogue and deliberation events took place in a typical year? (Or at least had SOME way to guess!) What if we had a sense of which approaches people in the D&D community specialized in and had training in? What if we had a sense of when practitioners and organizations in our field were more likely to collaborate with their peers? NCDD’s Inventory Survey was designed to get answers to these questions and more, and we invite you to participate! […] (continue)

NCDD is collecting blurbs describing your great work!

NCDD is made up of extraordinary organizations and individuals who, in my opinion, are doing some of the most important work on the planet.  For fundraising and outreach purposes, we want to do a better job explaining the work our members do. For starters, we want to collect short, concise sentences (blurbs) describing your work.  Here are a few examples of some blurbs I wrote a few years ago to illustrate our members’ work… King County’s (Seattle Area) innovative Countywide Community Forums, a project of […] (continue)

Who’s Working on Issues of Income Inequality & Health Care?

A few months ago, I asked the NCDD network who was, is or will soon be working on engaging people around the issues of health care or income inequality. The Kettering Foundation was interested in learning about who is working on these topics (and still is!), as they are topics that the National Issues Forums Institute is currently addressing. Later this month, Kettering will be holding its annual “A Public Voice” event at the National Press Club in DC, and NCDD has been honored to […] (continue)

It’s time to mark your calendars for the highly anticipated 2016 National Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation! We’re excited to announce that our next national conference will take place in the Boston area this October 14-16. Our conferences only come around every two years, and you won’t want to miss this one! Just last night, someone told me they’ve never had more fun at a conference than at the last NCDD conference. But NCDD conferences aren’t just about having fun and enjoying the company of […] (continue)
