16-year-old Student Convenes Middle East Dialogue

Len and Libby Traubman sent us a great story recently about a student taking dialogue on the Middle East into her own hands. They write “Rachael Cameron is a Jewish 11th grade high school student in California. She travelled last summer to Israel and was inspired to learn more. Back at school, Rachael pursued and was granted consent for an Independent Study project for academic credit. “Israeli and Palestinian Culture: Religion and the Conflict” consumed her interest for a school semester. Four Million Students Mix It Up

On Tuesday, November 14 more than four million students at over 10,000 schools participated in national Mix It Up at Lunch Day. Bubel/Aiken Foundation and Youth Service America Offer Able-to-Serve Grants

Here’s an interesting grant for anyone involved in youth D&D: The Bubel/Aiken Foundation (www.thebubelaikenfoundation.org) and Youth Service America (www.ysa.org) have announced grants of up to $1,000 each to support youth-led and -driven service projects in which youth with and without disabilities serve their communities together. CPRN Embarks on Youth Civic Engagement Research

Canadian Policy Research Networks (http://cprn.org) begins a new research project this month designed to help shape new directions for youth participation in Canada. It will build on the results of CPRN’s Youth Dialogue conducted last fall. Last week, I came across YouthNoise, a web-based organization focused on providing a space for youth to discuss issues important to them (their OrangeBands). Call for Submissions – Case Studies of Civic Engagement in the First Year of College

The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition and The New York Times invite the submission of case studies forCivic Engagement in the First Year of College, a new volume in The First-Year Experience Monograph Series. This publication will describe programs and courses that develop students’ civic literacy and engagement and will offer strategies for designing, implementing, and assessing such initiatives. Switzer Environmental Fellowship Program Invites Applications from Graduate Students in New England and California

Attention students of Environmental stakeholder planning! The Switzer Environmental Fellowship Program (www.switzernetwork.org) has announced a one-year, $15,000 cash award for graduate study as well as networking and leadership support to awardees. Twenty Environmental Fellowships are awarded each year, ten in California and ten in New England. The Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation (http://www.fcfox.org/) has opened its Request for Proposals for nonprofits in Los Angeles and Santa Clara counties, California, for education and youth programs, including youth dialogue and deliberation.
