Launch of YourWordsCount.org
If you were among the participants in last month’s NCDD conference in Seattle, this news will not come as a surprise to you, because our longtime colleague, Carolyn Lukensmeyer shared it during her plenary speech. The National Institute for Civil Discourse at the University of Arizona, which recently welcomed Carolyn as their first Executive Director, has just launched a website to engage citizens in promoting civil discourse.
I encourage you to visit www.YourWordsCount.org. Check out the webinar given by Carolyn, Tom Daschle and Jim Kolbe or take one of the polls. Read Carolyn’s blog, Civilogue, or find out if there’s a conversation on civil discourse happening near you. You can even pick up some civil discourse trivia under the “Did you Know” tab. Although the website is currently informational, an advocacy component will launch after the election.
Your Words Count is a project of the National Institute for Civil Discourse. Established in February 2011 at The University of Arizona, the Institute is a nonpartisan center for advocacy, research, and policy regarding civil discourse consistent with First Amendment principles. The Institute’s goal is to restore confidence in American government by reestablishing civil discourse as a central tenet in our democratic tradition. The purpose of this project is to engage your help because Your Words Count.
