A Bold, Upcoming Experiment with Catalyst Awards

As you have likely heard, the Catalyst Awards Program is NCDD’s effort to stimulate collaboration across our member organizations.  The NCDD Board is very happy to see all the projects that have been proposed, and now we are excited to push this experiment farther.

We will do this by focusing as much energy as possible from our 1600+ member network on these proposals through a 75-min Maestro Conference call.  The call will consist of small-group discussion where you will have the opportunity to brainstorm with three separate project coordinators during three 15-minute sessions.  RSVP here!

These project coordinators need your help in working through some of their challenges.  These are NCDD members who were daring enough to propose a bold idea and they would sincerely appreciate your support!

The call will take place on Thursday, November 15th from 3:00-4:15pm EST.  The call will open at 2:30pm EST for anyone who would like a walk-through of the platform where project coordinators are collaborating with other NCDD members on their projects (being near a computer is recommended for this call).

If you can participate, please RSVP at the link above.  The call-in number is (408) 520-2444 with a PIN of 664625.

Why should you participate?

  • to get feedback on your idea for a catalyst award project
  • to have some fun collaborating on some other fascinating projects
  • to see which projects you might like to become more involved in

Participating on this call is not a requirement for submitting a proposal; this call is an optional resource for project coordinators to continue generating momentum for their projects.  Our goal is to make this as fun and productive as possible!

Format of the call:

  • 2:30pm EST: Optional walk-through of CivicEvolution, the online platform for the catalyst awards; Q&A follows
  • 3:00pm EST: Collaboration begins: welcome and explanation of the process
  • 3:05pm EST: Each project coordinator gets 45 seconds to explain their project and what skills they are looking for.
  • 3:15pm EST: Small-group brainstorming #1
  • 3:30pm EST: Small-group brainstorming #2
  • 3:45pm EST: Small-group brainstorming #3
  • 4:00pm EST: Q&A w/ Sandy, NCDD Executive Director
  • 4:15pm EST: Finished

Also, here are the major milestones in the catalyst awards process:

  • Nov 25: Deadline for project coordinators to sign up and submit the first draft of their proposals
  • Dec 10: Review board gives the green light to all proposals that meet the submission criteria
  • Jan 13: Project coordinators make final submission of updated proposals
  • Jan 28-Feb 6: NCDD members vote on the most worthy proposals
  • Feb 7: Winners announced

We welcome your suggestions for how to continually improve this process.
