“Sustaining Ourselves: How Can We Best Meet the Needs of Today and Tomorrow?”

It seems clear that the America inhabited by our grandchildren will look different from the America of today. We need to address what aspects of our current lifestyle are important enough to keep and pass down, and what we could choose to do without. It is time to ask: How can we best meet our needs today without hampering our ability to meet those needs tomorrow?

“Right From the Start”

This issue guide was designed for people who are concerned about the development of our youngest children, as well as its ripple effects on our communities and nation. The guide focuses on the first four years, before most children begin their formal education. We’ll examine what can and should be done to help them grow during this critical time and start school to learn.

“Bullying”

Bullying of students by other students is not a new problem, but society is no longer tolerant of mistreatment of children, either physically or emotionally. This issue frame involves three approaches, with advantages and disadvantages of each. Think about what you accomplish and what you give up in each approach. Out of your discussion identify those things that emerge as most important and valuable to do in your class, school, or community.
