NCDD Confab Call Archive — Responding to Newtown
Last Wednesday, NCDD hosted its April 2013 Confab Call with featured guest Brad Rourke. We focused on Brad’s recent Issue Advisory How Can We Stop Mass Shootings in Our Communities? (pdf) prepared for the National Issues Forums Institute in response to the mass shooting in Newtown, CT last December.
It was a well-attended Confab, with more than 150 sign-ups and a healthy conversation during the call and on the collaborative document we created to allow participants to ask questions and introduce themselves. If you missed the call or want to revisit it…

Announcements from the Call
At the end of all our Confab Calls, we like to set aside a few minutes for participants to share announcements about their work. Here are the items shared at the end of the April 2013 call…
Susan Partnow shared information about the 2013 Compassion Games (compassiongames.org) which run from September 11-21, 2013 in Seattle, WA. This year, Compassion Games activities are also being organized beyond Seattle and Louisville, KY, expanding to include New York, NY; Orange County, CA; Delhi India; and the West Hollywood LGBTQ Compassion Games.
Jerad Morey from the Minnesota Council of Churches Respectful Conversations Project, which run statewide conversations on issues such as same-sex marriage and role of guns in society, announced that they are seeking evaluation methods to assess dialogues designed to build empathy and community (not ones intended to solve problems). He requests that anyone with suggestions contact him via this email address: j.morey@mnchurches.org.
John Spady from the National Dialogue Network reminded us that this Catalyst Award winning project is currently seeking input from the community on their inaugural issue. Visit the full announcement here for information on how to contribute.
