International Day for Sharing Life Stories

The Museu da Pessoa (museudapessoa.net) and the Center for Digital Storytelling (storycenter.org) have recently launched a new website (ausculti.org) devoted to their campaign, the International Day for Sharing Life Stories. Dedicated to bringing people together to share stories on May 16th 2008, this event will be an opportunity for people around the world to gather in community halls, classrooms, public parks, theaters, auditoriums, as well websites, email exchanges, and virtual environments to hear each other’s stories. Detailed information can be found on the project’s website.

More about the host organizations after the break.

About the Center for Digital Storytelling (from their website):

The Center for Digital Storytelling (storycenter.org) is a California-based arts organization rooted in the art of personal storytelling. We assist people of all ages in using the tools of digital media to craft, record, share, and value the stories of individuals and communities, in ways that improve all our lives. Many individuals and communities have used the term “digital storytelling” to describe a wide variety of new media production practices. What best describes our approach is its emphasis on personal voice and facilitative teaching methods. Many of the stories made in our workshops are directly connected to the images collected in life’s journey. But our primary concern is encouraging thoughtful and emotionally direct writing.

About the Brazilian Museu da Pessoa (from their website):

The Museu da Pessoa (Museums of the Person – museudapessoa.net) are virtual museums that collect, preserve and share life stories for social change. To be a Museum of the Person is to be locally responsible for the democratization of social memory and for the dissemination of the local life stories in a global level. The Museum of the Person’s international network links individuals and groups through authoring and sharing life stories. Museums of the Person are located in Brazil , Portugal , the USA , and Canada.

This sounds like a very interesting medium. I have a quick question… Are there specific topics that these stories will cover?

  2. Andy Fluke says:

Rain – There was no indication in the press release of specific topics being encouraged. Feel free to contact the host organizations. NCDD is considering joining this event by doing an online program. We'd love to know if there is any interest in joining in.
