Submissions Due Next Monday for IAP2 Core Values Awards

Consider submitting a program or organization for IAP2‘s International Core Values Awards.  This is a great opportunity to get lots of additional PR and accolades for successful dialogue and deliberation efforts.  Submissions are due next Monday (June 8th), and at this point your chances are pretty good since there are only 4 submissions so far!  (I’m one of this year’s judges, as the awards will be presented at the San Diego IAP2 conference this September and NCDD is a Partner.)

The IAP2 Core Values Awards recognize excellence and innovation in the field of public participation guided by the seven IAP2 Core Values for Public Participation. Two awards are presented annually; one for a project and one to an organization, which exemplify the spirit and purpose of public participation. Preference will be given to projects that demonstrate the use of innovative techniques, sustainable solutions to problems that face the field of public participation, and the successful involvement of the public in new areas. The winning organization should show how public participation has affected decisions.

In 2009 IAP2 is introducing a new award for innovation.  This will be an exciting acknowledgment of those projects or organizations who have included social media strategies in their public participation.

The Project of the Year Award will be given only to projects that have achieved a definable outcome. They must be complete or have significant phases of the project completed. Project awards are given to the sponsoring organization.

The Organization of the Year Award will be given to the organization that best meets the application criteria.   A distinguished panel of judges reviews all the applications.

The Core Values Committee is co-chaired by Marty Rozelle and Geoff Wilson.  Marty has been involved with IAP2 since its earliest days and is member of the US Training Consortia and is a licensed trainer.  Geoff was part of the award winning 2008 Project of the Year team and has recently been elected to the IAP2 Board.

The winners will be honored during the Core Values award celebration at the IAP2 17th International Conference in San Diego on September 22nd 2009.

Please note to be eligible for an award you or your nominee must be a current member of IAP2 and completed the application process by 12 noon GMT on June 8st 2009.  No correspondence will be entered into in the course of the judging period.

Additional information on eligibility criteria, format, weighting for judging criteria and more is posted on the IAP2 website at www.iap2.org.
