Looking for a roommate for NCDD 2014?

For those of you coming to the 2014 National Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation who want to cut down on your lodging costs, we encourage you to use the comments field on this blog post to find people interested in sharing a room at the conference hotel.

HyattRegencyRestonShotThe conference is taking place in Reston, VA (in the DC metro area) at the Hyatt Regency Reston. It’s a a cozy 4-Diamond hotel in the heart of Reston Town Center, and we encourage everyone coming in from out of town to stay at the Hyatt for your own comfort and convenience! We’ve negotiated a fantastic rate of $124/night (plus tax) for our conference attendees.

If you need to cut lodging costs while still staying at the hotel, use the comment field to post that you’re interested in finding a roommate.  I think you’ll be very glad you’re staying at the conference hotel. Staying at the Hyatt means you can take a break or nap whenever you need one, spend more time downstairs networking, and even room with someone who may become a lifelong colleague and friend. Plus you can partake in all the other hotel amenities like free wireless for guests, the huge fitness center, the pool, and the shops and restaurants right outside the hotel.

We recommend people arrive on Thursday, October 16th, since we start Friday morning and you’ll want to take advantage of some of the cool pre-conference activities your colleagues will be organizing! You should plan to depart on Monday, October 20th (or later in the day on Sunday, October 19th, since we end at 3:30pm. (See the conference schedule here.)

To get the NCDD room rate, make sure you use this link when you reserve your room:

Our cut-off date for the reduced room rate is September 30th, so be sure to reserve your room before then!  I recommend not waiting until then, though, because our room block is filling up very quickly this year.

Here are some things you may want to include in your comment:

  1. Your name, gender, and any special requirements or considerations your potential roommate should know about you (i.e. you’re a smoker or night owl).
  2. When you’re arriving and departing (in other words, which nights you want to share a room).
  3. Email or phone (in case people would like to connect with you directly).

If you have any questions that are not addressed here, check out our logistics/travel page here, and feel free to send me an email at sandy@ncdd.org if you still have questions.

roommate both nights. Coming from Portland, Oregon.

  2. Chris Bui says:

Greetings NCDD Conference Participants! It would be great to share the room I’ve booked from the 15th through the 20th.

I’m looking for a fellow male attendee that is relatively neat, highly respectful, knows how to sleep well, and is fired up about civic engagement, community building, dialogue, deliberation, and change!!!

Friendliness, a sense of humor, and an optimistic view of human nature are welcome, yet not required.

While I just described key parts of myself, I’m open to any and all inquiries and trust that exactly the right person will show up.

    Maybe it’s you…

Sharing the room from the 16th through the 20th would be ideal.

  4. Laurie Richardson says:

    Greetings fellow travelers!

I am about to book a room for 3 nights: Thursday, Friday, Saturday (16th, 17th, 18th) and would be up for sharing with another female conference goer who needs lodging for those 3 nights.

I am coming from Cambridge MA, currently working as an independent consultant on issues related to both peacebuilding and international development. I speak French, Spanish and Haitian Creole as well as English. I am a non-smoker, quiet and easygoing.

Zap me a mail if you are interested in a share – preferably for all 3 nights so we can both maximize our savings.

  5. Lisa Stiller says:

Just adding on to my post above about sharing a room….I would do a threesome as well, and am willing to take a cot if needed! It would greatly reduce the price! Arriving very early Friday morning, leaving Sunday

      Hi Lisa & Laurie,
glad to see your posts. I would be interested in rooming with two other ladies. I am a non-smoker, semi-early to bed (these days), but extroverted, people-lovin’ lady coming from Kent, OH. I’m planning to stay Friday & Saturday nights, possibly Thursday night.

Here is my e-mail address- alucas4@kent.edu.
Will give you a call early this week.

      Hi Lisa,

Please see my post below & let me know if we might be a fit.

  6. Nicole says:

I have a room reserved Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights.

I’m female and a generally considerate person & roommate. I’m coming from CA.

Some thoughts about me as a roommate:
    * I’ll keep my stuff contained
    * I don’t smoke
    * I have not been told I snore
    * I’m open to getting to getting acquainted or to simply being roommates
    * I’m more of a late sleeper & late riser (even before factoring in the time change)
    * I prefer a temperature around 70 degrees
    * I need the room dark to sleep.

The room I have reserved has 2 double beds. Unfortunately, they don’t allow roll-away beds in this type of room. I’m not interested in sharing a bed, but I’m open to other creative arrangements to allow more than 2 of us in the room.

Feel free to post a reply here or email me @ nicole.farkouh.consulting@gmail.com.

    • Lisa Stiller says:

      Have you found someone?
I thought I had found a threesome, but they don’t allow cots. I am in a tight budget and could do a sleeping bag if I had to….coming very early Friday and leaving Sunday…

    • Nicole says:

      Hi Everyone,

I recently attended a conference during which my roommate sharing experience was less than stellar. Since I’m now feeling a little gun shy, I’ve decided to go solo during NCDD.

Best of luck working out a roommate situation and hope to cross paths with you at the conference!

      All the best,

  7. Tom Atlee says:

I will be rooming with Charlie Wisoff on the 17th and 18th. I need a roommate for Thursday the 16th. I don’t have a room yet for that night, but will probably get one within 24 hours if I don’t hear a share offer here before then. Then, of course, I’ll add a request for someone to join me that night in the room I reserve. cii@igc.org

    • Tom Atlee says:

UPDATE: I have now reserved a nonsmoking room with two double beds for Thursday October 16. If you don’t snore and you’d like to share it and its cost with me, let me know. – Tom

  8. Jim Rough says:

I’ll be arriving on Friday morning and leaving on Sunday afternoon. I have a room reserved and would like to share the room with a non-snoring person. Thanks,

  9. Kaylee Hicks says:

I am a female student from Kentucky and will be flying in to DC at midnight on Thursday. I would like at least one roommate with whom to share the cost of a double bed room Thursday-Saturday nights. I am a tidy person, not picky about living arrangements, and am a non-smoker. Please send me an email, post here, or give me a call if you’re interested in sharing. Looking forward to meeting you all!

    Hi Everyone!
I am looking to crash with someone who already has a room. I am female from CA coming in on Thurs and most likely leaving on Sunday night. Some thought about me as a roommate: I co-habitate well (I live with someone now and grew up with sisters), friendly, chill, non-smoking and very flexible.

I am even down to crash on the floor (it’s like indoor camping!).
Very excited to attend my first NCDD! Hope to find a fellow roomie soon. Many blessings and see you all at the conference!

  11. Ben Roberts says:

I’ve got a room for Thursday, Friday and Sat nights. Looking for a male roommate.

  12. Ben Roberts says:

In addition to the roommate search, I’m wondering if anyone would like to carpool? I’m in CT, just off Exit 9 of I-84, so I could hook up easily with anyone in the Boston or NYC areas (or CT, of course). My plan is to leave Thursday afternoon.

  13. Ben Roberts says:

Looks like I will be pairing up with Chris Bui, which means we have an entire extra room available at the conference discount rate, on Thursday, Friday and Sat nights. I can cancel it, but before I do, I thought I’d see if anyone (e.g. two women) might want to take the reservation off my hands.

Still looking for car-pooling partners too! (See post above).

    • Good idea to hold off on letting it go, Ben, as I heard from the hotel today that all the regular doubles (2 beds) are booked. Plus they can no longer honor the $124 NCDD group rate.

  14. Keiva Hummel says:

    Hi all,

I am looking for a room to share on Sunday night before I fly home to CA on Mon evening.

Some thought about me as a roommate: I co-habitate well (I live with someone now and grew up with sisters), friendly, chill, non-smoking and very flexible. I am even down to crash on the floor (it’s like indoor camping!). Hope to lock in a spot soon. Let me know if we can be roomies. 🙂 Looking forward to NCDD next week!

  15. Hey, everyone! Just checking in to make sure everyone has a room reserved, our deadline for the $124 group rate has passed. I am holding on to a couple of double rooms, so email me today at sandy@ncdd.org if you need them. I’m getting my final room list to the hotel later today.

    • Lisa Stiller says:

Sandy, Kim and I would like one of those for thursday, Friday, and Saturday

      • I’ll see if I can get one of those rooms for you, Lisa. I sent them my final room list for the folks we’re covering, and did ask them to save ONE of the other rooms for us. This will be on NCDD’s master account, so you’ll need to give NCDD payment for the rooms. What is Kim’s last name? I’m not sure which Kim you’ve been talking with.

      • Kimberly King says:

Hi Sandy, checking in to make sure you and Lisa and I are all squared away on room-share reservations and related arrangements for Thurs thru Sunday? Looking forward to seeing you!

      • I sent the hotel your names (Lisa S and Kimberly K), but I’ll double-check with them tomorrow to make sure you have a room reserved. You should!

  16. Lindsay Carey says:
