Position Opening at Public Agenda in NYC

Public Agenda is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative individual who is interested in joining their team in New York City and developing into a project leader over time.

Public Agenda, an NCDD organizational member, is a nonprofit organization that strengthens our democracy by helping leaders and citizens collaborate on sustainable solutions to complex public problems. They pursue this nonpartisan mission through innovative research, stakeholder engagement, creative communications and strategic partnerships that increase our impacts. Public Agenda’s engagement methodologies and practices include focus group research, in-depth one-on-one interviews, nonpartisan problem-solving forums, leadership dialogues, etc. Current projects involve work with public policy experts, business leaders, institutions and community-based organizations at all levels across the United States to build capacity for engaging critical stakeholders in problem solving on issues around higher education and K-12 reform, economic development/regional planning, the environment/energy use, health care and others. The engagement associate will lead a variety of field-based qualitative research and engagement projects, produce memos and reports, represent Public Agenda in leadership settings, and assist with organizational tasks in support of a busy department.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Minimum educational requirement is an advanced degree in a social science or related discipline (public policy, political science, urban planning, etc).

• Minimum 10 years work experience in any of the following fields:

  • Public engagement
  • Organizational development and change work
  • Public policy, especially around higher ed or K-12
  • Research, especially qualitative methods and evaluation

• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentation and training skills

• Ability to interact effectively with community members of diverse backgrounds as well as local, state and national leaders

• Strong project management skills

• Exceptional analytic capacities (ability to research and synthesize material quickly).

• A sense of humor and ability to work with a diverse team on diverse projects

• Highly organized, able to coordinate multiple schedules and project logistics on an ongoing basis

• Keen eye for detail—for example, in analyzing material, keeping track of project deliverables, and helping the team stay on task

• Desire and ability to travel domestically, as this position requires significant travel (5 to 7 days per month on average)

• Fluency in Spanish is a plus

• Experience in community engagement is a plus
