Casting open for TV series following red/blue couples!

Cynthia Farrar of Purple States emailed Sandy today about a cool project.  Cynthia wanted to alert NCDDers to “a fun project with an NCDD twist: dialogue and deliberation within the family!”  Cynthia wrote:

“We are now casting a television series that will follow several red/blue couples in the run-up to November 2012.  The premise for the series is: how do people manage to live with differences that are splintering the nation?  I am particularly keen to reach Millennials who might fit the bill.”

Here are some more details…

The Red-Blue, Liberal-Conservative divide is often the focal point of tension and negativity. The deepening polarization of the US over the past decade has fueled many a debate, and though an excellent starting point for real dialogue, it regularly gets in the way of meaningful exchange.

But not all political differences play out in public arena, as Purple States, producers of real world, real people documentaries like Election ’08 and The Farmer’s Film, are setting out to examine and, in the process, also exploring “dialogue in the family”.

Their latest project, Purple Couples, is in pre-production and seeking participants for a “docu-drama featuring red and blue couples”. Here’s how they explain it…

“Are you in love with someone who doesn’t share your political values? Or perhaps you know an R or a D or an I who is making a life with her — or his — opposite number? Purple States is casting red/blue couples for a docu-drama that will air in the fall of 2012. In the process, we’re trying to learn more about how people in mixed-politics relationships deal with differences that are fracturing the country. All stories welcome — confidentially, and with no obligation — at www.purplestates.tv/audition.html.”
