Gloria Rubio-Cortés to Lead National Civic League
The National Civic League (www.ncl.org) has named Gloria Rubio-Cortés as its new president. Founded in 1894, the League is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization promoting citizen involvement in community problem-solving and greater democracy in government. It is widely known for the All-America Cities Award given each year after a national competition featuring diverse groups working together to improve their communities.
Ms. Rubio-Cortés first joined the League in 1992 as development director. She later became the League’s vice-president and chief operating officer. She left in 2000 to work for the Levi Strauss Foundation in San Francisco. At the time of her appointment as president of the National Civic League, Rubio-Cortés was employed by the Community Technology Foundation of California which she served as director of partnerships, vice-president, and chief operating officer.
