NCDD to co-sponsor the Intl Conference on Participatory Budgeting

It looks like NCDD will be a proud co-sponsor of the first International Conference on Participatory Budgeting in the US and Canada, which will take place March 30-31, 2012, in New York City!  We’re happy to play a role in supporting this event, as participatory budgeting is one of the fastest-growing forms of public engagement in the U.S., and we’d like to see more NCDD members stepping into this work.

I heard from Josh Lerner yesterday that workshop slots are filling up quite fast, so if you planned to propose a session, I recommend not waiting until the January 31st deadline (more details on submitting a proposal can be found at http://pbconference.wordpress.com/call-for-proposals/).

Conference registration is crazy affordable at $50 (even less for students and lower income folks).  For more info about the Participatory Budgeting Project (the main organizer), see this NCDD blog post.  And if you’re new to “participatory budgeting,” a good place to get started is Tom Atlee’s post on PB practices and resources.

If you’re planning to attend, please let me know by adding a comment here or sending me an email.  I’d like to see a strong contingent of NCDDers in attendance, and if it looks like we’ll have that, we should plan to meet for dinner or breakfast one day.

I’ll be discussing this with IF colleagues to see who’s best in position to attend.

  2. Looks like I might be there to co-lead a session/workshop. Hope to have more details next week.
