Regulations.gov: Remaking Public Participation

This announcement from the eRulemaking Program Management Office comes from NCDD sustaining member Alexander Moll, Communication Specialist at the Environmental Protection Agency – eRulemaking Branch…

WASHINGTON – In recent months, the eRulemaking Program, a Fed-wide E-Gov and Open Gov initiative, which manages Regulations.gov has met with various groups and organizations to discuss ways technology can facilitate online public participation in rulemaking. The Program mission aims to increase access to and participation in developing regulations and other Federal decisions that impact people’s lives. Since 2002, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has served as the managing partner of the eRulemaking Program. Currently, the program’s number of Federal partners consists of 39 departments and independent agencies.

This week, the White House announced the redesign of Regulations.gov in a White House blog post by Cass Sunstein, the Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). The redesign is the first installment in a series of website developments scheduled for this year.

To mark this milestone, the eRulemaking Program would like seize this opportunity to establish relationships with more civil society members of the Open Government community, particularly those dedicated to advancing public participation. To begin, you and your colleagues are invited to register for a public webcast and live chat for next Tuesday and have a conversation with Program team members in March about how to advance public involvement in rulemaking.

Please feel free circulate this announcement with professional peers. Please contact Alex Moll, eRulemaking Program Communications Lead (moll.alexander@epa.gov) if you have any questions and would like to participate in the Program’s civil society conversation next month.
