AmericaSpeaks is recruiting facilitators for Town Meetings in New Orleans, Philadelphia and Chicago. Volunteer facilitators will work with small groups of ten people to deliberate about a series of questions that will be asked over the course of the full day meeting. Via laptop computers and keypad polling devices, individual tables will share the results of their conversations with the hundreds of participants in the room. Facilitators will be oriented to the program and are expected have experience with small group face-to-face deliberation, comfort with diversity and difference of opinion. The City of New Orleans is holding an Employee Town Meeting to provide employees and key personnel with the information to understand the city’s recovery plan and opportunity to discuss and deliberate their roles in rebuilding. Shaping America’s Youth (SAY) is addressing youth obesity by holding Town Meetings that bring together local citizens, business leaders, and decision-makers to resolve the crisis through discussion and deliberation. Facilitator opportunities include Philadelphia on Saturday April 21 and Chicago on Saturday May 19. The results of the SAY meetings will help local groups carry out health programs & projects in the local area and be used to create a national strategy that will result in better health for all Americans.
