Int'l Journal of Public Participation Launches
Our good friend Michael Briand emailed me today announcing the inaugural issue of IAP2’s new International Journal of Public Participation (IJP2). The IJP2 is an online, multi-disciplinary forum for the exchange of information among researchers, practitioners, decision-makers, and citizens about public participation and its impact around the world. It has been created with the specific intention of bridging the arenas of research and practice within the field of public participation.
Look over the current issue, or go to the Journal’s home page at www.iap2.org/ijp2. I’m particularly excited to see the Journal connected to a Forum (bulletin board) where some real conversations can take place about the articles, and it looks like they’re planning to add a wiki as well.
Here’s the contents of the first issue:
Welcome: ‘Welcome to the IJP2’ Katherine Beavis
Comment: ‘Democracy at the Core: Recalling Participation’s Raison d’Être’ Michael Briand
Features: ‘Pro-social Reasoning in Deliberative Policy Decisions’ Peter Muhlberger
‘Prophet of Participation: Mary Parker Follett and Citizen Participation’ Ricardo Morse
‘Participation Through IAP2 Guidelines: An Opportunity or Challenge for Integrated
Development Planning in South Africa? ’ Francois Theron, Nicky Ceaser, Ismail Davids
‘Status and Participation: A Focus on Process Design in a Cambodian Case-Study’ Beth Rushton
Remarks: ‘Public Participation as Dialogue, Debate, and Negotiation: Entangled Promises and Practices’ John Forester
Classic: ‘Citizen Participation in Decision Making: Is It Worth the Effort?’ Renee Irvin, John Stansbury
Interview: A Conversation with James Creighton
Review: Beyond Reason by Roger Fisher and Daniel Shapiro Mike Henry
Forum: Do scholars and practitioners have anything to say to each other?
Enjoy!
I am doing research on Public Participation in South Africa. I have found the article by Francois Theron (2007) et al ‘Participation According to IAP2 Principles: Opportunity or challenge for integrated development planning in South Africa?’ very useful.
Unfortunately, the article does not have page numbers. Are you able to assist for citasion/reference purposes?
Thanks
Sifiso
Hi, Sifiso! I suggest looking on the Journal of Public Deliberation’s website at http://services.bepress.com/jpd/ for citation information.
