AmericaSpeaks Seeking Communications Coordinator

AmericaSpeaks (www.americaspeaks.org) is looking to hire a Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator will coordinate the communications and marketing activities of a fast-growing nonprofit organization with the mission of providing citizens with a greater voice in local, state and national governance. The Coordinator will raise the visibility and profile of AmericaSpeaks and its projects. The Coordinator will plan and implement daily branding and messaging to support AmericaSpeaks outreach to media, clients, prospective clients and donors, partner organizations and the organizations volunteer network. The Coordinator will consult with local clients on the development and implementation of media strategies in support of AmericaSpeaks projects.

The Coordinator will report to the Chief Operating Officer of AmericaSpeaks. This is a new position and the first internal, full-time communications position for the organization. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Support the development and execution of the AmericaSpeaks Strategic Communications & Marketing Plan
* Consult on and/or develop media strategies for citizen engagement projects and assist in leading on the ground efforts
* Generate media coverage about AmericaSpeaks work
* Establish and manage an AmericaSpeaks media contact list of national print and electronic media sources
* Create and disseminate news releases, newsletters and other promotional materials on AmericaSpeaks projects, internal initiatives and facilitator activities
* Develop content for and oversee the production of AmericaSpeaks marketing materials and the organizations website
* Secure speaking opportunities for AmericaSpeaks at prominent speaking venues and track progress of speakers bureau program
* Oversee the management and growth of the AmericaSpeaks database of contacts
* Plan and manage direct mail and/or web outreach to target audiences
* Plan and help direct marketing events such as seminars or roundtable discussions
* Assist with speech writing and op-eds as needed
* Provide marketing support to fundraising initiatives; Recommend public relations course of action in crises.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred for the Position

* A commitment and passion for increasing the voice of citizens in key policy making and planning
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated experience coordinating complex communications campaigns
* Demonstrated ability to generate media visibility for organizations similar to AmericaSpeaks on an ongoing basis
* Experience in research, written preparation and dissemination of information to the public through such media as publications, broadcast, internet, and periodicals.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Willingness to adjust hours according to the demands of the job.
* Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects while maintaining a perspective on long-term goals
* Strategic thinking with a strong understanding of marketing strategies, practices and techniques.
* Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline.
* Experience working with the web, online marketing and blogs
* Five years experience in the field of journalism, marketing, public relations or public affairs
* Nonprofit or Congressional experience a plus; campaign experience also a plus
