Public Agenda Seeking Public Engagement Project Manager
Public Agenda, a non-profit, non-partisan public opinion research and civic engagement organization (www.publicagenda.org) in New York City is seeking a project manager/researcher for its Public Engagement department. Public Agenda is at the forefront of the exciting and fast growing field of civic engagement and dialogue and deliberation, and is looking for a confident, motivated professional to fill this entrepreneurial position.
Public Agenda’s citizen engagement methodologies and practices include community forums, leadership dialogues, focus groups and on-line engagement strategies. Current projects involve work with community-based organizations and leaders at all levels across the United States to build capacity for engaging citizens in problem-solving on issues such as K-12 and higher education reform, the federal budget, climate change, and others. The project manager will work on a variety of research and writing tasks, on field–based work on diverse projects, and assist with administrative and organizational tasks in support of a growing department. While the current opportunity is a managerial role, we are looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in developing into a project leader over time.
Required Skills and Abilities:
* Demonstrated project management experience (minimum 3 years)
* Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
* A sense of humor and ability to work with a diverse team on diverse projects.
* Some relevant experience directly in public engagement/deliberative democracy work, or in such related areas as regional planning, community organizing, qualitative research, etc. is highly preferred.
* Must be extremely organized, able to coordinate multiple schedules and project logistics on an ongoing basis.
* Must have an eye for detail—for example, in copy-editing documents, analyzing material, or keeping track of project deliverables.
* Willingness and desire to travel domestically.
* Experience and/or expertise with online engagement and deliberation strategies a plus.
* Fluency in languages other than English a plus.
