Mobilize.org Seeking Program Director

Mobilize.org is an all-partisan network dedicated to educating, empowering, and energizing young people to increase civic engagement and political participation. They work to show young people how public policy impacts their lives, and conversely, how they can impact public policy. They are currently looking to hire a Program Director for the Party for the Presidency, a national conference to be held on December 29-31, 2007

In July 2007, Mobilize.org will embark on the Democracy 2.0 project to call attention to the ways that the democratic process and institutions are succeeding and failing to serve the interests of Americans, specifically young Americans. Additionally, they will showcase the unique characteristics and skill sets that young people can use to redefine and reinvigorate this process. During the 2007-2008 New Year’s weekend, they will host the Party for the Presidency in Los Angeles, CA, a leadership development conference that will bring together 435 individuals (one from each Congressional district) to learn from one another and unite behind a common vision – Democracy 2.0. Each individual will be nominated as a top young activist demonstrating a citizen-centered approach to engagement in their community. They will be given the opportunity to present their best practices, learn from organizing experts, and leave as a commissioned Democracy 2.0 Ambassador. The Party for the Presidency will focus on encouraging young people to build organizing and advocacy strategies to engage their communities in identifying local problems, and not only be part of the solution, but create the solution.

The Program Director will be hired by August 1, 2007 and will work on a 6-month contract through January 31, 2008. Following an evaluation, the position may be extended. The location for the position will be in either Berkeley, CA or Los Angeles, CA with frequent in-state travel required. Applications are due by July 13, 2007. The position’s salary is $3,000 per month. Benefits include health insurance, cell phone, and a week of paid vacation. The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of planning the Party for the Presidency, including the Mobilize Awards.
