Centre For Humanitarian Dialogue Seeking Peace Consultants

The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre) is an independent and impartial organization whose purpose is to reduce human suffering in war by preventing and resolving armed conflicts. It is active in a number of conflict resolution projects around the world, promoting and facilitating dialogue among belligerents. The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue’s Arms Programme is seeking expressions of interest from Armed Violence and Peace Process consultants to take on assignments varying in length from one to four months.

Individuals with the following experience, skills and abilities are encouraged to apply:

1. At least 5 years of work experience in conflict mediation, conflict prevention, peacemaking, armed violence reduction, weapons control and disarmament in nations recovering from armed conflict;

2. A knowledge of peace processes, in particular dimensions related to violence reduction, disarmament and weapons control;

3. An ability to undertake often sensitive research in a discreet manner, involving interviews, focus groups, and interpreting polling analysis;

4. Demonstrated analytical, written, problem-solving, communication and research skills;

5. To be able to travel for between 2-4 weeks at a time;

6. An appreciation of cross-cutting themes in peace processes such as gender, victims and survivors, justice and reconciliation;

7. Work experience or detailed knowledge of the situations of armed violence and/or peace processes in El Salvador, Burundi, Sudan, Nepal, the Philippines considered an advantage;

8. Fluent English, with the ability to work in French and/or Spanish regarded as a strong asset.
