Participation.net

Participation.net is a global, online space for sharing ideas about the participation of people in development, citizenship, governance and rights. We welcome researchers, practitioners, activists, educators, policy makers and others from around the world to exchange diverse views and resources. Note: Participation.net is actually located at www.pnet.ids.ac.uk — not participation.net!  And Participation.net should not be confused with peopleandparticipation.net, which is run by the U.K. organization Involve.

Participation.net is a global, online space for sharing ideas about the participation of people in development, citizenship, governance and rights. We welcome researchers, practitioners, activists, educators, policy makers and others from around the world to exchange diverse views and resources.

Participation.net is committed to giving voice to innovative ideas and views that will help to strengthen the involvement of marginalised people in decision-making, and to improve the performance and accountability of key institutions.

Who are we?

Based at the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex, UK, participation.net is a joint initiative of four partners:

  • Citizenship DRC – the Development Research Centre on Citizenship, Participation and Accountability
  • LogoLink – the Learning Initiative on Citizen Participation and Local Governance
  • Participation Resource Centre at IDS, a leading collection of materials on participatory methodology
  • Eldis – the gateway to development information

Why participation.net?

Participation.net aims to provide overviews of key trends and debates, leading to further detail and resources. A series of Topic Guides will brief you on major issues and link you to selected materials. The guides aim to serve as a platform for greater debate and exchange, rather than being a one-way forum.

Access to resources and events

Participation.net provides access to vast databases of resources, including bibliographic abstracts, online documents and organisations. You may do a single search of all material, or narrow your search to a specific database.

In addition, participation.net gives you access to relevant discussion lists, organisations and a list of current events, including trainings, workshops and conferences. Your own contributions to these listings are also welcome. To submit an event or training opportunity, please use the interface provided in the Events Database.
